A brief chat with Erik Rosén
Perception and deep learning.
Meet our employees from different parts of Zenseact when they share their story, insights and experiences.
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m leading the development of perception systems and deep learning at Zenseact.
Can you describe your product area and its role in the broader software safety system at Zenseact?
When trying to automate driving and make cars safer, we tend to think of them as robots. These robots typically sense their environment, plan their next actions, and act. They repeat this cycle over and over again. I'm responsible for the sensing part, which involves using sensors like cameras and radars in the car to provide a world model of what's happening around it, allowing it to plan effectively.
What real-world problems does your product area solve and how does it contribute to safer mobility?
We're focused on ensuring that the “robot car” understands the correct speed at which to drive and recognizes objects around it for safe navigation. For the human driver, this information about the world around us can be used to inform the driver about the speed limit, warn for upcoming collision and even applying the brake automatically if necessary. In this way, the world model that we provide aids both drivers and the planning robot, significantly contributing to safety. Additionally, our deep learning core enhances perception by suggesting optimal driving trajectories, leading to a more human-like driving experience in the future.
How do you approach leadership?
For me, leadership involves aligning people and motivating them toward common goals. It’s crucial to have a clear road map and architecture that everyone agrees upon to ensure we’re building effectively.
How do you drive innovation and productivity within our people-at-heart culture?
To foster innovation and productivity, I believe in motivating my team. It’s important to be curious as a leader, listen actively to my people, and ask insightful questions about their work and challenges. I also remind them of our purpose—mitigating accidents and preventing fatalities on the road while working with exciting technology.
What makes you smile at work?
What brings me the most joy at work is when the team comes to me excitedly and shares what they've accomplished, often showing a video demonstrating new capabilities of our software. It genuinely makes me smile and feel happy.
Which one of our company values means the most to you and why?
While all our values are significant, if I had to choose one, it would be innovation. It's my primary driving factor because I find it deeply motivating to tackle complex problems in new ways and make those solutions a reality.
